Broward girls swimming first team, second team, honorable mention, coach of the year

FIRST TEAM

Ava Ryan Andersen, 1-meter diving, Pine Crest junior: Had best dive of 498.5; won districts, regionals and won prestigious Woodson Invitational; state qualifier since her seventh grade year; former track and field triple jumper and gymnast.

Riley Botting, 200/500 yard freestyle, Pine Crest junior: Won district, regional in the 500 free en route to a third place finish in the Class 1A state meet (4:52.97), which was a junior cut; finished 10th in the 200 free at state (1:51.11).

Isabella Chambers, 50/100 free, Pine Crest senior: Finished in 6th place at state in both the 50 and 100 free events, recording PRs in the 50 (23.67) and the 100 (51.79); a member of the school record 200 free relay.

Julianne McCranie, 100 back/100 fly, St. Thomas Aquinas sophomore: Swam a PR of 56.93 in the 100 fly and placed seventh in Class 3A state meet; took 10th in the 100 back at state with PR of 57.50; finished in top 10 at state in both freshman and sophomore years.

Tawannah Portik McLemore, 50/100 yard freestyle, Fort Lauderdale freshman: Won county, districts and regionals in both events and placed third in both of her individual events – the 50 yard freestyle in 23.36, an All American consideration time, and third in the 100 yard freestyle in 51.48.

Julia Podkoscielny, 200 yard IM/100 back, Pine Crest junior: UF commit is a two-time Sentinel Girls Swimmer of the Year and seven-time state champion for the Panthers; won the 200 IM at Class 1A state meet for a third straight year and was runner-up in 100 back; Olympic Trials qualifier and USA Junior National team member.

Kaitlyn Ross, 1-meter diving, St. Thomas Aquinas junior: Ross finished second in the girls 1 meter diving at state with a 436.35 and helped the Raiders’ girls take sixth with 106 points; also placed seventh in the Class 3A meet in 2019 in diving. (376.75), won district, regionals; also competes as tower diver.

Micaela Sierra, 100 breast/200 IM, South Florida HEAT senior: Finished fourth in the 100 breast (1:03.25) at the Class 1A state meet; placed ninth in the 200 IM (2:05.67); was a member of the 200 medley relay that clocked an All American consideration time of 1:44.24; holder of 3 Uruguayan national records.

Hanna Elks Smith, 50/100 free, Pine Crest senior: Placed fourth in the 100 free at the Class 1A state meet (51.68) and seventh in the 50 free (23.81); member of both the 200 and 400 free relays that owned county’s top times; member of the school’s tennis team.

Mariusz Podkoscielny, Pine Crest: In his 16th year at the school, guided the Panthers girls to a third place finish at state behind perennial power Jacksonville Bolles and St. Andrew’s. “I am most proud of the resiliency the team showed this year. Let the commitment outpace your goals.”
