Class 6A-5A-4A football: Player of the Year Jacoby Brissett

Jacoby Brissett

Dwyer, senior

HT./WT.:

6-5, 225;

POS.:

QB

STATISTICS:

Completed 108-of-158 passes for 1,671 yards, 22 touchdowns and no interceptions during the regular season despite being pulled at halftime or in the third quarter of most games after the Panthers had built a commanding lead. He finished the season with 2,473 yards passing, 32 touchdowns and only one interception and led Dwyer to the Class 4A state semifinals, where the Panthers lost to Seffner-Armwood 22-20 on a last-second field goal.

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS:

He has plenty of highlight reel on his resume and his stats could have been off the charts had he not sat out the second half of most games. For example, he completed 14-of-18 passes for 238 yards and threw four touchdowns in only one half of action in Dwyer’s 49-7 win late in the season against West

Boca Raton

, which was a playoff team.

OF NOTE:

Brissett, who also is an outstanding basketball player, has not decided yet — or if he has he has not officially announced it — where he will be playing in college next year. He has made visits to Florida State, LSU, Notre Dame and Wisconsin and it’s possible that he might join teammate tight end Nick O’Leary, his favorite receiver target and another highly touted recruit, as teammates at the next level.

BRISSETT ON MAKING HIS COLLEGE DECISION:

“It’s going to be just where I feel most comfortable and have a good relationship with the coaches. It’s already difficult. I haven’t been too focused on it, but it’s been fun. You meet a whole lot of different people.”
