College Sports | Hurricanes flip former commit Armondo Blount back from Florida State

The Miami Hurricanes snatched a key local recruit away from their biggest rival.

Defensive tackle Armondo Blount, a former UM commit who flipped from Miami to FSU in October, flipped back to the Hurricanes on Wednesday.

“I feel like the development at the University of Miami is a better fit for me, and I can do something staying home and show the younger kids to stay home and have fun,” Blount said.

“I feel like Miami has always been in my heart,” he added. “It never left, even when I flipped.”

Blount, a standout lineman for Miami Central, is rated a five-star prospect, the No. 4 defensive lineman and No. 23 player in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.

Blount, who transferred from Dillard to Miami Central, was previously a 2025 prospect but reclassified to the 2024 class so he can play in college sooner. He will enroll in January.

“Just coming in, keep my head down, work and start over,” Blount said. “It’s like starting high school over again, so I’ve got to start over and work.”

Blount had 58 tackles, 19 tackles for loss and 11 sacks this season.

The Miami Central star joins a deep UM defensive line class. The Hurricanes also have commitments from five-star tackle Justin Scott, four-star tackle Artavius Jones and three-star tackle Daylen Russell. UM also signed four-star edge rushers Marquise Lightfoot, Elias Rudolph and Booker Pickett Jr., as well as three-star edge rusher Cole McConathy II.

“We’ve got some dogs coming in,” Blount said. “All the dogs staying home. I’m very excited to play with my brothers and people who I grew up playing with.”
