Latest line: Miami is favored by 16 1/2 points.

I can’t lose. But as a Miami (Ohio) alum, it’s a no-lose game if you factor in the reported $1.5 million its program is paid for a scheduled loss. As for the University of Miami, this should be prep work for next week’s much-anticipated home game against Texas A&M.

A new season is here, and optimism returns despite UM’s poor 2022 campaign. New offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson’s offense will debut against a middle-of-the-road MAC team, and the Hurricanes should be able to put some points on the board. A revamped offensive line should keep the RedHawks out of the backfield and allow Tyler Van Dyke to rack up some passing yards as UM cruises to a win.

The Hurricanes are 16 1/2-point favorites for good reason. After a disastrous season a year ago, Miami is as focused as ever with an influx of talented players and veteran coaches. There won’t be another monumental home loss like last year when UM was embarrassed in a 45-31 defeat to Middle Tennessee State. Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke has much to prove after a subpar 2022 season. Miami’s offense should be vastly improved this season under new offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson.
