The Hurricanes missed out on one of the nation’s top prospects in the 2024 class on Thursday.
Five-star edge rusher Colin Simmons committed to Texas, announcing his decision on 247Sports’ YouTube channel. Simmons chose the Longhorns over Miami and LSU.
Simmons is rated the No. 8 prospect in the 2024 class by 247Sports’ composite rankings. He is listed as the No. 1 edge rusher.
Simmons, who is listed at 6-3 and 225 pounds, stars for Duncanville High in Texas. Last season, he had 22.5 sacks and was named the Texas Sportswriters Association (TSWA) Class 6A Defensive Player of the Year after leading his team to a state title.
The Hurricanes have three defensive linemen in the class: four-star prospects Artavius Jones and Marquise Lightfoot, as well as three-star prospect Daylen Russell. They currently have one five-star prospect in the class: Chaminade-Madonna wide receiver Joshisa “JoJo” Trader.
