JCC to present outdoor ‘Jewish Broadway Cabaret’ show

People craving a return to attending in-person shows can do so outdoors at the Adolph & Rose Levis Jewish Community Center in Boca Raton.

Back in January, the Levis JCC Sandler Center’s West Boca Theatre Company introduced The Courtyard Series, which features live, outdoor musical and theatrical performances with limited seating, distancing and mask requirements in place. Shows take place on the Sandler Center’s Greenberg Courtyard, 21050 95th Ave. S in Boca Raton.

An upcoming show in the series is “Jewish Broadway Cabaret in the Courtyard” with musician Ari Axelrod taking place from March 24-25. Performance begins at 7 p.m. on both nights.

Stephanie Owitz, the Sandler Center’s director of arts, culture and learning, said, “After almost a year of being mostly at home, we are delighted to be able to provide our eager audiences with the joy of live performance once again.”

“Audiences will love Ari Axelrod’s ‘Jewish Broadway Cabaret,'” Owitz continued. “This nostalgic celebration of Jewish Broadway honors the beloved songs and stories of Jewish composers and their contributions to the American musical.”

Alan Nash, the center’s assistant director of arts, culture and learning, said the series has been very well received.

“Audiences are wanting to return to some semblance of normal and seem very comfortable as we are implementing all possible precautions,” Nash continued.

When it is considered safe to go back to full capacity indoor performances, Nash said the center plans to continue using the courtyard for performances during months in which weather permits it.
