The St. David Country Carnival, which began on Thursday at the Davie church, will continue through Sunday with rides, food, games and live entertainment.
Rides include Giant Wheel, Ring of Fire, Orbitor and Kamikaze. An international food court offers items ranging from country bakery to German, Greek, Irish, Italian and Tex-Mex. Tonight’s entertainment is the Shadow Creek Band beginning at 9 p.m.; Saturday at 1 p.m. there will be a kiddie show, and a karaoke show from 7 to 10 p.m.; on Sunday, the carnival will conclude with an appearance by rock band Destiny from 8 to 11 p.m.
The Country Carnival will be open from 6 p.m. to midnight today, from noon to midnight Saturday, and from noon to 11 p.m. Sunday at the church, on University Drive between Interstate 595 and Griffin Road. Shoppers at the event will be able to treat themselves to a massage or a cosmetic makeover as well as browse for jewelry, kitchen accessories, children’s giftware, stationery and handbags. The bazaar will be open on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the temple ballroom, 5100 Sheridan St., Hollywood. The synagogue’s adult education Shabbat Speaker series will begin during the 8 p.m. services today with an appearance by Dr. Roy Alterwein, author of the recently published Young Again. Alterwein will share his secrets of health and longevity.

National radio talk show host Dennis Prager will serve as the keynote speaker during the David Posnack Jewish Community Center’s ninth annual Jewish Book Month, a communitywide festival of arts, books and culture scheduled for Nov. 3 through Nov. 24 at the community center, 5850 Pine Island Road, Davie.
Prager is co-author, along with Rabbi Joseph Telushkin, of The Nine Questions People Ask About Judaism as well as Think a Second Time, a book of essays on a variety of subjects. Prager will discuss the pressing problems facing Jews today at the keynote event, scheduled for Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m.
Jewish Book Month is designed to feature a series of authors and programs on political, cultural and family issues. In addition to Prager, appearances by Rabbi Harold Kushner, NBC sportscaster Bob Costas and author Joy Horowitz have been scheduled. Throughout the festival, a large selection of books, gifts and holiday items will be available in the Jewish Book Month bookstore. Seating is limited and reservations are required for all programs. Unity Church of Hollywood is offering two classes titled “How to Meet People in South Florida” and “Journaling.”
The “How to Meet” class, which teaches creative ways to connect with other singles, is offered from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Nov. 15 and Dec. 13 and costs $10 per class.
The “Journaling” class teaches participants how to use a journal to clarify and achieve personal goals, visualize the future and free one’s intuition and imagination. The class is offered from 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 3 and costs $30, or $25 pre-paid.
