Starwood Hotels and Resorts is spreading rapidly across South Florida, with plans for nine hotels in the next three years.
Three of the openings are slated for Fort Lauderdale — one Aloft hotel aimed at tech savvy travelers, one Four Points hotel for budget travelers and one Element hotel, the chain’s extended-stay brand. Openings are planned in December 2016, 2017 and 2019, the company said Wednesday.
Other Aloft hotels will open in Weston in October 2017 and Delray Beach in 2018.
Four hotels are planned in Miami-Dade County: Aloft hotels in Coral Gables and Aventura, an Aloft near Miami International Airport and a Four Points near MIA. All will open in 2017.
That will bring Starwood’s hotel count in Florida to 30, a 40 percent increase. An Aloft opened Feb. 4 in Sarasota.
“Florida is one of the fastest-growing markets in North America for Starwood’s Specialty Select brands,” Brian McGuinness, global brand leader for Starwood’s specialty brands, said in a news release.
The chain operates more than 300 hotels worldwide.
Marriott International announced plans in November to buy the hotel chain in a $12.2 billion stock-and-cash deal, a transaction expected to close by mid-2016.
