Things To Do | Cheering on Panthers and Heat? Get free food if teams win, score in Finals

South Florida sports fans are buckling up for the start of one of the most exciting Finals seasons in the state’s history as the Miami Heat compete against the Denver Nuggets for the NBA championship and the Florida Panthers take on the Vegas Golden Knights for the Stanley Cup.

Honestly, there’s so much to see and do, we should all get time off. First, we had to clean out our bank accounts for game tickets, or make watch party plans. Next up is prepping the fan gear — dusting off those jerseys and purchasing some Eastern Conference championship hats or T-shirts supporting your favorite player (yes, a Tkachuk E. Cheese T-shirt exists and Etsy is awash with Jimmy Buckets T-shirts).

But there’s something else to consider: Your fandom will be rewarded with free food and other deals if our teams win.

So cheer on the Cats and Heat, and come here to find how out you can celebrate while saving a few bucks. You’ll need it to buy all of that championship merch in a few weeks.

Burger King

The Heat and Nuggets may competing in the NBA Finals, but Burger King is combining them for its newest spicy menu item: Fiery Nuggets. The crispy chicken nuggets with a kick don’t officially launch until June 19, but members of Royal Perks (Burger King’s rewards program) who live in Denver and Miami can try them a week early. From June 12 until one day after the final game day of the series, residents can get a free eight-piece Fiery Nuggets redeemable through the BK app via mobile order and pay or in-restaurant using their six-digit code.

“Heat is definitely having a moment, so this felt like the perfect time to introduce the Fiery Nuggets with the spicy glaze we know our guests love,” Chad Brauze, senior director of culinary innovation and sustainability, Burger King North America, said in a statement. “Glazed with cayenne peppers, Birds Eye chili and Black pepper, the new nuggets provide the perfect combination of flavor and spice.”

Cooking up the “Official Chicken Tenders of the Florida Panthers,” Huey Magoo’s has extended its Buy-One-Get-One playoff deal through the Stanley Cup Finals. Fans who visit select Huey Magoo’s locations wearing Panthers gear the day after the team wins a game can receive a free three-piece tender meal with the purchase of another. The promotion is valid at the Coral Springs, North Lauderdale, Oakland Park, Sunrise and Miramar restaurants.

“When we found out that we had the opportunity to become the ‘Official Tenders of the Panthers,’ and to serve our award-winning tenders in the (FLA Live) Arena, we got together with our South Florida franchisees and put this exciting deal together,” said Huey Magoo’s President and CEO Andy Howard, who plans to watch the games in person or in front of his TV with family and friends.

His prediction? “Panthers win in six games!”

Chipotle

“This year, when it rains threes, it rains free burritos,” is the message Chipotle’s chief brand officer, Chris Brandt, is sending out to Miami Heat fans during the NBA Finals. Each time a 3-pointer is made by either team during the Heat vs. Nuggets series, Chipotle will send out a text-to-win code from @ChipotleTweets on Twitter.

The first 300 fans to text the code to 888222 will receive a free entree from Chipotle, which is giving away up to 10,500 free entrees per game. Fans can choose from a burrito, burrito bowl, single order of tacos, quesadilla (only available via the Chipotle App or on Chipotle.com), or a salad.

For the 2021 and 2022 NBA Finals, Chipotle hid free food offers in TV ads that aired during the series — and they are bringing this promotion back for the Stanley Cup Finals this year.

Chipotle will hide a keyword in its TV ads that will unlock 10,000 BOGO offers during each of the first four NHL Finals games. Fans (who must be a Chipotle Rewards member; sign up at ) can text the keyword to 888222 for a chance to win. Participants will receive a text if they have won.

Chipotle became the NHL’s official Mexican-themed fast-casual restaurant in 2021.

Chewy

The Plantation-based online pet food and products retailer is giving Cats fans (and cat owners) something else to root for during the Finals: Chewy plans to give away thousands of free cat treats if the Florida Panthers win the Stanley Cup.

The company will share a promo code on that can then be redeemed on Chewy.com. Fans can also find Florida Panthers collars and personalized jerseys as well as custom Miami Heat ID tags for their pets on the site.

“Celebrating cats comes naturally for us here at Chewy, whether they play on ice, or land on top of furniture. If you listen closely, you can even hear the chants of ‘Go, Cats, Go!’ in our Plantation headquarters, down the street from the Panthers’ stadium,” said Diane Pelkey, Chewy’s vice president of communications. “We wanted to give Florida cats and fans another reason to cheer on their home team, especially since this is such an inspirational underdog — or undercat — story.”
