Before gathering with their own families for turkey on Thanksgiving Day, racing enthusiasts can come together that morning for a 5K event in Boca Raton.
The Adolph & Rose Levis Jewish Community Center presents the 13th annual Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk on Nov. 25 at South County Regional Park in Boca Raton.
Registration/packet pickup takes place from 6-7 a.m. The 5K kicks off at 7:30 a.m.and the Youth 1 Mile Fun Run starts at 8:30 a.m. There is also a Turkey Trot Virtual 5k At Home option for people who are not yet comfortable participating in person.
The Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk is one of the Levis JCC’s Paul Markhoff Racing with the J events. Proceeds benefit the Boca Raton-based JCC’s programs and services.
Jonathan Beskin, chair of the Paul Markhoff Racing With the J, said, “The Levis JCC’s annual Turkey Trot 5K has become a Thanksgiving Day tradition in our community. It’s something people really look forward to.”
“We are proud to be able to welcome everyone to enjoy a safe event, to get together and connect and to support the programs and services of the Levis JCC,” Baskin continued. “It’s a wonderful way to start the holiday.”
Lauren Koblick, the JCC’s special events director, noted, “Working on the Levis JCC Racing With the J events is really gratifying.”
“The program illustrates the best of what a community center can do: bring people together,” Koblick continued. “The Turkey Trot is a favorite with so many in our community and also with visitors who are here to spend the holiday with family and friends.”
Post-race refreshments will be available for all racers. The first 800 registrants (for both in-person and virtual) will receive a shirt and collectible finisher medal. Goodie bags will be given to in-person participants. Strollers are allowed on the race course.
