WOMAN SHOT IN NECK OUT OF HOSPITAL

Heather Grossman, shot in the neck with a high-powered rifle by gunmen at a busy Boca Raton intersection last month, was released from Delray Medical Center Wednesday morning in fair condition, hospital officials said.

Grossman, 31, has slowly improved since she was taken to the hospital in critical condition after the Oct. 14 attack on her and her husband, John Grossman.

Boca Raton police have said her injuries were so great that she may be permanently paralyzed.

But so far, Heather Grossman’s family has declined to confirm that or comment on any aspect of her medical condition.

Police have issued a gag order to members of the Grossman family, and have released little information about the shooting.

There has been one arrest, but the case is far from closed.

Eddie Stafford, a Hollywood auto detailer, remains in police custody without bail after he came forward late last month and told police that Heather Grossman’s ex-husband, Ronald Samuels, had offered him a Ford Explorer to kill her.

Stafford, who has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, also told police that Samuels turned to him after his friend and associate, Hugh Estess, had previously failed to complete the hit.

According to Stafford’s account, there were at least two other conspirators in the murder plot, which he said was orchestrated by Samuels.

Police said Estess’ car was used in the drive-by shooting, but they haven’t spoken to him since he was briefly questioned the day of the attack and released.

Estess, a Hollywood insurance agent, said Stafford had his car at the time of the shooting, court records show, but Stafford denied participating in the shooting, which occurred at the corner of Federal Highway and Yamato Road.

Police have yet to talk with Samuels. The former Pensacola car dealer has been involved in a bitter custody battle with Heather Grossman over the couple’s three children since their 1994 divorce.

Samuels is still seeking custody of his two sons and daughter in a Santa Rosa County court.
